Immortalized in the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger, the Furka Pass in Switzerland remains one of the world's greatest driving roads. This scenic route, winding through the Uri/Valais region, was the backdrop for a thrilling car chase between an Aston Martin DB5 and a Ford Mustang. Over half a century later, the landscape remains largely unchanged, making the Furka Pass a must-drive for anyone seeking the best roads in Europe. It's a favorite for many, and it might just become yours too.

The Furka Pass is conveniently located near other stunning routes, such as the Grimsel Pass to the north and the Nufenen Pass to the south. For the most exhilarating experience, drive from west to east, where you'll encounter the tightest hairpin turns. A stop at the former Hotel Belvedere is highly recommended. From here, you can admire the breathtaking scenery, explore the Rhone Glacier Ice Grotto, or simply enjoy a coffee with a spectacular view. The Furka Pass offers incredible vistas from every perspective—whether you're looking up from the valley, preparing to ascend the hairpin bends, or gazing down from Belvedere at the valley and the Rhone River.

The road beyond Belvedere towards Realp continues to impress with scenic straights and more hairpin corners. At 2,429 meters above sea level, the Furka Pass is the fourth highest paved mountain pass in Switzerland. Due to heavy winter snowfall, the pass is typically open only from June to October. During the winter closure, vehicles can be transported by train through the Furka Base Tunnel between Realp and Oberwald. While this train operates year-round, we strongly recommend experiencing the Furka Pass by car during the summer months to fully appreciate its spectacular driving experience and breathtaking views.
