Wrangell might not be the most talked-about stop on an Alaskan cruise, but sometimes the ports you expect the least from end up being the most rewarding. With no excursions booked, I set out on my own to see what I could discover — and found a stunning hike up Mt. Dewey, ancient petroglyphs carved into the rocks along the shoreline, and the perfect reminder that adventure doesn’t always have to be planned.
In this video, I’ll take you along for my day exploring Wrangell on foot — from the 500-step climb up Mt. Dewey, to Petroglyph Beach, to a quiet afternoon back on board enjoying the sunshine and catching up on a little laundry. If you’re considering doing Wrangell on your own, this is a great look at what you can see within easy walking distance of the port.
Next up: Haines, Alaska! Stay tuned for that video — it’s one of my favorite ports of the trip.
