Big Train (From Memphis)" is a song written, produced, and performed by John Fogerty, released on his 1985 chart-topping solo album, ''Centerfield''. Originally released on December 6, 1984, as the B-side to the hit single "The Old Man Down The Road," it peaked at number 38 on the US Billboard Country chart. The song is an upbeat rockabilly tribute to Elvis Presley and the legendary Sun Records sound. The "Big Train" in the lyrics metaphorically refers to Elvis's explosive arrival and impact on the music world. Fogerty performed all instruments on the track himself. To achieve its distinct "Sun sound'', he used a custom Philip Kubicki guitar with out-of-phase pickup settings. Fogerty reportedly wrote most of the song in his blue Land Cruiser while parked in residential areas or shopping plazas to avoid being recognized. In 1986, Fogerty contributed a version of the song to the ''Class Of '55'' album, which featured Sun Records pioneers Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, and Carl Perkins.
