Brandon Unruh, MD, and Robert Drozek, LICSW, are co-authors of a newly-published book: Mentalization-Based Treatment for Pathological Narcissism: A Handbook (Oxford University Press). In this presentation, they will describe narcissistic difficulties and how they show up in treatment, and also how they can complicate the treatment of borderline personality disorder (BPD). In addition, the presenters will describe some strategies for addressing narcissistic difficulties using a Mentalization-Based Treatment approach. This presentation will be of interest to family members and mental health providers who interact with individuals with narcissistic difficulties, alone or together with BPD.
