"Burried Alive", 1995.
Abnormals formed in 1988. The group went on to release a few demos from 1991 through 1993, and also appeared on the "Shake a Move" omnibus in November of 1992. In 1994, Abnormals appeared on the "Sokobi Juuatsu Yatsuwari (底引重圧八割)" omnibus and later released their first mini-album, "Burried Alive", in August of 1995. The album would unfortunately have mediocre sales in the underground punk scene, although Abnormals pushed onward and appeared on a split single with former underground punk band GMF in late 1995, "From the Underground", and also appeared on the "Sokobi Juuatsu Kyuuwari (底引重圧九割)" omnibus in 1996. By the end of 1996, however, Abnormals had its first lineup change when bassist Arima and drummer Koga both left. They would then soon both respectively be replaced by Horitan and Murochin and on New Year's Day 1998, Abnormals released their first full length album, which was self-titled. The album would be a huge success critically and finally served as their big breakthrough in the underground punk circuit. In August of 1999, the group released its first two singles, "Hatred" and "Pride E.P", and later released their second full length album that October, "No Surrender", with the singles and album being further smash successes for the group. By the new millennium, Abnormals would become one of the main faces for the Japanese horror punk subgenre, alongside Balzac and the commercially successful band The Slut Banks. In November of 1999, Abnormals appeared on the "Every Beat Box" omnibus and also appeared on a split single with legendary rockabilly band Mad3 in December, "King of Lizard Session", and also appeared on a split mini-album with legendary hardcore band Yellow Machinegun in February of 2000. The group appeared on four more omnibuses throughout 2000 but did not release any original material that year. In October of 2001, Abnormals returned with the release of their third full length album "Sympathy", which would be yet another smash success for the group. In December of 2001, the group appeared on the "Loudkill" omnibus and later appeared on the "Street Bikers Present's Super Hiside ~Leather Heads Version~" omnibus in June of 2002. In early 2003, Horitan left and would be replaced by 70X although shortly after he joined and at the peak of their popularity, Abnormals would surprisingly end up folding with all of the members immediately afterwards forming The Fly Wheel, which would release its first full length album, the appropriately titled "The Artist Formally Known as Abnormals", in October of 2003. The album would have rough sales, although the group went on to tour throughout the next few years as The Fly Wheel, appearing on the "A Case of RFTC Junkies" omnibus that year as well. By 2006, however, The Fly Wheel failed to take off in the underground music circuit anywhere near the success of Abnormals, and in the fall of 2006, The Fly Wheel would dissolve and Abnormals would then return. In 2009, Abnormals made their return on the "...Out of This World 4" omnibus and later released their fourth album as Abnormals, "Inishie Violent (イニシエバイオレント)", that November, which was their first Abnormals release in 8 years. The group also released its first compilation album, "Holy Blind", a few days after the album's release as well. Both albums had decent sales, although paled in comparison to the group's heyday in the late 90s and early 2000s. In 2010, however, the group would drastically decrease activities, before announcing in 2011 that it was having its first lineup change in nearly 15 years when Murochin and guitarist and original member Isobe left, leaving frontman Comi as the only original member left. Isobe and Murochin would soon be respectively replaced by Yuri and Masato, however, with a second guitarist, Kiyo, joining around this time as well. In March of 2012, this new version of Abnormals made their debut on the "Kaikoo Planet Il" omnibus, although afterwards, the group would not do any new material for 5 more years. The group would appear on two tribute albums for legendary Japanese horror punk band The Griffin and Motorhead before making their official return in March of 2017 with the release of their fifth album under their Abnormals name, "Mokushiroku (黙示録)", which would unfortunately be their worst selling release since 1995's "Burried Alive", although the group would attempt to go on and later released their second mini-album, "Z-E-R-O", in August of 2018. The album had slightly better sales but still struggled and toured a bit more before officially disbanding in September of 2020 after an impressive run of 32 years with the years of Abnormals and The Fly Wheel combined. Comi and Masato both went on to form the group Wetblack, which they remain active in today. It is currently unknown as to the whereabouts of the rest of the final lineup of Abnormals.
