In spite of the slight progress nationally, Enugu State currently lacks access to adequate water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services, especially in the face of rapid population growth and increasing urbanisation.
The Sanitation in Small Towns and Rural Areas (SCWSSTRA) project which was funded by The Coca-Cola Foundation's (TCCF) Replenish Africa Initiative, sought to improve the lives of the poor and marginalised people in selected communities in Enugu State through the expansion of access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services that promote income generating businesses for women and girls and youth.
