Hey guys, I hope you all good. Just wanted to do this first video following my gastric band surgery. It’s now Friday and I had my surgery on Saturday. So, I'm trying not to smile but I'm already seeing a bit of a difference. Since starting my pre-op diet on the Monday before last Saturday, I have now lost 15 pounds - just over a stone already. Absolutely amazed with the weight loss to be honest. So, as for the procedure goes, I went along in the morning and I got there for half seven - it was at the Spire Bushey hospital. I was taken to my room which was really nice and I had to go down for half past 10 in the morning, but things were running a bit late which wasn't a problem as I had someone to keep me company and take my mind off things. Before I went down, I had my blood pressure done. Obviously, all my observations to make sure everything was all right. I didn't eat anything from about seven o'clock the night before, just to keep my stomach empty. I think you can have water until about half 6 that morning though. Then when I went down, I went to see the anaesthetist. I met my anaesthetist beforehand, I met my surgeon again and went down to the anesthetizing room - all really nice. Obviously, I was a little bit shaky but I just wanted to get it done, get it done and out of the way to be honest. So, I went down, and I don't remember much about it, but I was there around an hour and a half to two hours, something like that. All I wanted to do was sleep. Just wanted to sleep, understandably. Hence not being able to drive for three days afterwards.
Following that I would say the only complication, not complication sorry, the only little niggles I had was trapped wind. There’s no reason for that to be scary or anything, if you're considering having this done, but I had a lot of trapped wind because obviously you've now got what I call two stomachs. A top stomach which is my pouch, and my bottom stomach. It's kind of like you can't burp anymore or you struggle to burp at first because during the operation they inflate your stomach to see what they're doing and understandably there's going to be a little bit of trapped air left over. I was having things like gripe water Rennie® Deflatine, peppermint tea. I don't drink tea but it was helping. I was just kind of trying to keep mobile as well. The only other little niggle really was the port site I've got on my left. It's just been a bit tight to be honest. Not gruelling. Painkillers have helped but I'm now off the painkillers and again it's still going to be tight. There's something new in your body that your body basically doesn't want, so it's got to take some getting used to.
So, since Saturday I've been doing my liquid diet. To start off with, that just involved water for 24 hours and then after that I have had things like Slimfast because I thought, plenty of nutrients. I got advice on it first. So, I started off just having water and then one, maybe three-quarters a bottle of Slimfast a day. But I'm actually finding my appetites coming back now so I'm now having a Slimfast shake in the morning, and then I'm having some tomato soup for lunch - half a tin something like that. For dinner, I'm having some more soup so just trying to mix it up by having maybe chicken soup, potato and leek. Obviously at this stage the first two weeks, if it's chicken soup you need to make sure there's no lumps of chicken in it. So, what I do is I'm sieving out the chicken, cooking it and then having what I want. But definitely finding that it's a big learning curve as you'd understand. It's something you'll get used to very quickly. I mean, I'm starting to realize that as soon as I start to feel the bit of an ache around my chest area, that means that I'm starting to get full up. The other thing is my stomach's been growling, which to me, you'd normally think is being hungry, but even after I've ate say half a tin of soup, I know full well that I'm not hungry, but what it is, it's where the where the soup or the food is actually working through your top stomach, down to the bottom stomach just hasn't got there yet. So, I'm very excited to see what's to come. Look out for my next video. I'm gonna keep these this video diary going and hopefully next time I'll be closer to the two-stone mark. See you soon guys!
