The Mindset Shift That Actually Reduces Insecurity
This is the mindset shift—the mindfulness practice—that we’ve talked about over and over again. You have to learn to give yourself affirmations, to genuinely care about yourself the way you would a close friend.
But here’s the key—👉 Research shows that self-compassion reduces insecurity more effectively than trying to boost self-esteem.
The Power of Self-Compassion Over Self-Esteem
Most people think the solution to insecurity is boosting their self-esteem. Wrong.
Instead of forcing confidence, try self-compassion. When I catch myself in harsh self-judgment, I shift my thoughts to:
💭 “This is really hard right now.”
💭 “Everyone struggles with this sometimes.”
💭 “How can I be kind to myself in this moment?”
At first? It felt cheesy as hell—like I was trying to parent myself. But over time? It became natural.
Real Example: My First Podcast Recording
I still remember recording my first podcast episode and hating the sound of my voice. Normally, my brain would go straight to:
❌ “You sound like an idiot.”
But instead, I caught myself. I paused. I reframed it.
✔ “Hey, it takes courage to put yourself out there.”
✔ “Nice job for showing up.”
Just something simple like that. And guess what? That shift mattered.
The Takeaway: Be Your Own Friend
You wouldn’t tear down a struggling friend. So why do it to yourself?
Start replacing harsh self-judgment with small acts of self-compassion. It won’t feel natural at first—but over time, it will become your default.
