FIREFIGHTERS SAVE HOME FROM HESPERIA BRUSH FIRE

At 3:45 on October 8, 2019 San Bernardino County Fire responded to multiple reports of a vegetation fire in the 8800 block of Buckthorn Avenue in the city of Hesperia.

First arriving units described a 25 by 200 foot spot of vegetation burning with a rapid rate of spread along a broad ravine and making runs up toward the yards of a number of homes in the area. Due to the immediate structure threat, a second alarm response was requested to augment the personnel on scene.

Working under 15-20 mph winds that pushed the fire across the slope, firefighters engaged in an aggressive fire attack while protecting numerous homes along the ravine. At the height of the threat, half a dozen homes were evacuated.

Firefighters were instrumental in saving one home from the advancing flame front and limited damage to radiant heat which melted the siding along the back of the single family residence.

One citizen was treated by #SBCoFD paramedics and transported to a local hospital for evaluation of mild smoke inhalation.

Forward progress of the fire was stopped approximately 45 minutes into the attack. The final size is 4.5 acres and is now 100% contained. Residents from the evacuated homes have been allowed to return.

Eight engines, one truck company, two hand crews, one water tender, an ambulance, and four chief officers from County Fire were assigned to the incident. The cause remains under investigation.

County Fire reminds its residents and visitors to exercise caution while outdoors and avoid activities that may result in unintentional starts to vegetation fires.
