As part of the 60th birthday celebrations for Adelaide Festival, they commissioned a very special gift for the city. A life-size, three storey doll’s house! A Doll’s House is visionary Japanese artist Tatzu Nishi’s amazing work of art. The installation has only been created once before, outside the Palais de Tokyo art museum in Paris.
The shell of A Doll’s House was constructed offsite, with structural steel and cladding installed. Once the shell was complete the intricate process of installing A Doll’s House into Rundle Mall began. Extensive planning was undertaken by the project team to ensure the safety of all involved, including the general public, and to determine the best installation method was used. Occurring over the weekend at night, the first stage of installation was completed successfully.
A Doll’s House opens to the public on 26th February and is free to wander through. Stay tuned for the second installation and watch all the BIG details come together to complete the most amazing of toys!
