STORYLINE:
India and Israel plan to boost defense ties, trade, and cooperation, said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, concluding his official visit to the country.
His remarks came during a news conference held with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"India and Israel are perfectly clear that terrorism has no place in the world. Terrorism cannot be accepted in any form or expression," said Modi, who was one of the first global leaders to swiftly express solidarity with Israel following the Oct. 7, 2023, attack by the Palestinian militant Hamas group that triggered the war in Gaza.
He reiterated his support of the U.S. ceasefire plan in Gaza, which took effect on Oct. 10., and remains fragile.
Israel-India relations have grown under Modi, whose embrace of Israel has marked a shift in the foreign policy of India which has historically supported the Palestinians.
India did not establish full diplomatic ties with Israel until 1992 and Modi's visit aimed to strengthen security, economic and technological cooperation between the two countries.
