Rather than going through the messy process of replacing individual CV boots and lube, many people just replace the whole half shaft axle complete with two new CV joints and boots, fully assembled. Here I demonstrate how to do that on a '90 Corolla (other years are probably similar if not identical).
I got the Half Shaft from Rock Auto for about $53 including shipping, which was significantly less than my local parts stores wanted.
