This video shows how to solve for the axial and hoop stress developed in pressurized tanks, both for cylindrical and spherical tanks. The design of these tanks is based off the hoop stress due to usually being greater than the axial stress in cylindrical tanks.

(1:35) Axial and Hoop Stress Derived Equations
(7:37) Problem statement: A spherical gas tank has an inner radius of r = 1.5 m. If it is subjected to an internal pressure of P = 300 kPa, determine its required thickness if the maximum normal stress is not to exceed 12MPa.
(9:20) Problem statement: The steel water pipe has an inner diameter of 12 in and wall thickness of 0.25 in. If the valve A is closed and the water pressure is 300 psi, determine the longitudinal and hoop stress developed in the wall of the pipe.
