Most of the electric locomotives used by the CFR (Romanian railways) are built by Electroputere Craiova (these locomotives are known as type 060-EA) and Končar Zagreb (type 040-EC). All were built to the standard gauge of 1435 mm and are powered by catenary alternating current with a voltage of 25 kV and a frequency of 50 Hz. All trains have electric heating. CFR has 1,066 electric locomotives in its fleet, of which 933 were built by Electroputere and 133 by Končar. Old locomotives are mostly painted grey, while those that have been modernized (after 1999) are painted in a red or cherry with white scheme, red representing the electric locomotives.
