The Thanchi region of Bandarban and its surrounding areas are no longer as peaceful as they once were. Over time, this hilly region has become unstable, tense, and increasingly unsafe.
The covert activities of foreign armed groups infiltrating from across the border, unrest among local communities, and weak border control have together created a strange and alarming reality.
This situation is not just a concern for Bandarban—it is a threat to the entire nation. If border security is not strengthened and foreign armed group infiltration is not stopped, the region could soon become a new hub for international crime and militant activity.
The time is now for the state to take a firm stance. What’s needed is modern, tech-enabled border security, robust intelligence surveillance, and a stronger administrative presence that earns the trust of the local population. If not addressed promptly, the fire in the hills could one day spread to the plains.
