For aluminium, this means full implementation of the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA), where aluminium is recognised as a strategic raw material, eligible for support through EU-level strategic projects.

He also addresses one of the most pressing supply issues: aluminium scrap leakage. Without strong action, he warns, scrap losses could slow down both the decarbonisation and competitiveness agendas of the aluminium industry.

Canton reaffirms the EU’s commitment to enabling the aluminium sector’s access to both primary and secondary raw materials, and stresses the importance of boosting demand for recycled aluminium as part of a functioning circular economy.
