The leaves are roughly heart-shaped.The flowers are greenish-yellow in color and appear in clusters facing the leaves.The fruit, is a berry. Based on its uses, this plant is included in the group of bone-healing herbs in Ayurveda. It pacifies Vaata - Kapha, haemostatic and regulates menstruation. The external application of medicated sesame oil prepared with the juice and paste of leaves and stems of this plant is good for bone injuries. The external application of its stem paste is also good for bruises. The juice of Cissus qudrangularis mixed with honey is good for menstrual problems. The dried powder of its tender stem and leaves are good for loss of appetite.Valiya chinchaadi lehya and Pathyapunarnavadi kashaya are examples of medicinal preparations that contain Asthisringala.Many diverse chemical constituents such as steroids, iridoids, flavanoids and many other compounds like calcium oxalates, vitamins are found in this plant. Several studies support this herb's ability to accelerate post-traumatic bone fusion and prevent osteoporosis.This is a herb that does not require special care. This plant can be easily grown in our home garden by stem cuttings with two or three joints, or by sowing seeds.
