Filmed in London and at over 40 British landmarks, the movie features supporting roles by Richard E. Grant, Claire Rushbrook, Naoko Mori, Meat Loaf, Barry Humphries, and Alan Cumming, as well as cameo appearances by several British celebrities. Despite long, grueling shooting sessions and a heavy media presence due to the group's popularity, the Spice Girls were excited to see their vision come to life on the big screen.

The film premiered in the UK on December 15, 1997, and went on to gross over $100 million worldwide. While it was a box office success, it received mostly negative reviews. However, the Spice Girls were thrilled to have made history by creating the highest-grossing film of all time by a musical group. In 2017, the film was re-released in limited theaters across the UK to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
