A water table describes the boundary between water-saturated ground and unsaturated ground , or we can say that the water table is the upper surface of the zone of saturation. Below the water table, rocks and soil are full of water. Pockets of water existing below the water table are called aquifers.
Aquifers are underground rock layers which are saturated with groundwater. The aquifer can be porous and permeable. The rocks that holds Aquifer is fractured limestone, silt, gravel, and sand.
Unsaturated Zone
The earth surface is divided into two regions-
The unsaturated zone or vadose zone is the portion of the subsurface above the groundwater table. which is full of air filled pockets with some water. The Soil and rock in this zone contain air as well as water in its pores.
Saturated zone.
Saturated zones always occur on the water table. The zone of saturation is where the pores and fractures of the ground are saturated with water.
It can also be simply explained as the depth below which the ground is saturated.
