Hello everyone,

Long time no see! Well, not really if you follow our other stucco channel. It has been a long time since I uploaded anything on this channel, but I will be adding much more this year!

To start us off I made this short video to answer a question we receive often. Should I use furring nails or staples for stucco netting?

The truth is you can use either! Modern-day stucco netting or lath wire does not need the furring nail, as it self-furred.
If you're wire is not self-furred, you have chicken wire in your hands that is 20 gauge, too thin for stucco but great for chicken coops or setting tile over.

Will it benefit you to attach stucco netting with furring nails?
Yes and no.
Most homeowners want to lath their wall patches without spending a thousand bucks for a compressor, staple gun, hoses and a box of large staples plus fittings then storing all this stuff you only used once, so no benefit there.
Yes, if you already own this equipment use it to attach the wire! You will save a ton of time, it's common sense.

FYI, furring nails were designed before the stucco netting was self- furred, as it was necessary to keep the wire off of the wall so the cement plaster could embed adequately.
Now with modern stucco wire this is not necessary.
