The USAID Health Care Improvement Project (HCI), implemented by University Research Co., LLC (URC), worked to strengthen the linkages between the health facility and community in Ethiopia and other countries by implementing a community health systems strengthening approach. In this video, URC's Ram Shrestha discusses how HCI applied the Community Health Systems model in Ethiopia to mobilize and motivate health extension workers in Oromia region. Shrestha initially developed the model through his work in Nepal with female community health volunteers providing primary health care services. The implementation of this model in Nepal resulted in maintaining the motivation of 50,000 volunteers for more than two decades.
As the January/February 2013 featured member of the Global Health Workforce Alliance, URC produced this video to highlight the importance of strengthening community health systems in improving health outcomes.
