Archive fun facts:

The idea for the song came from when LovelyMetalhead and I started watching Heated Rivalry and had a laugh when we learned it was loosely a reworded Stucky fanfic, or Steve + Bucky from the Marvel movies. We started talking about books like Fifty Shades that used to be a Twilight fanfic and The Love Hypothesis, which is a Reylo fanfic. Seeing fanfiction get turned into books and eventually movies inspired the base idea for this song. The conversation then led to “What if we did a Teto song where she’s obsessed with AO3 fanfics and starts writing her own?” and from that, this song was born

I decided to go for a more Pop Punk style for Teto, in a similar vein to a MonochroMenace song. The chorus is also a deliberate Interpolation of Ode to Joy, which came from when we wrote the lyric “Your fanfic sparks joy in my heart” and I used the Canon in D chord progression, as a reference to Green Day’s Basket Case

The majority of the terms and tropes in the song is all thanks to LovelyMetalhead, who had a pretty deep understanding of Ao3 and writes their own fanfictions. (don’t ask what their Ao3 handle is, It’s a government secret) So the most fun part of the song was to squeeze in as many references as possible. Like categorising how spicy a fic is by fruit, and Dead Dove contains material that will be upsetting to some

Originally, the song was just going to be Teto as a fangirl. Verse 2 would actually be her correcting her favorite author as part of a parasocial relationship. That was later changed to her becoming a writer when we wrote the first pre-chorus line

The MSPaint style artwork returns! Except this time, I’m not drawing with photoshop, but Aseprite. Some sections like the choruses and the bridge were drawn by Andromeda Blackfang, and then I redrew them in Aseprite to give Teto that detailed pixel art style

When we were working on this lyric video, we were wondering if the fanfiction in the song was gonna be real or a made up one. My Plan was to have it be a love story between either Steve+Bucky or Steve+Logan/Wolverine. More likely the latter since that is LoveyMetalhead’s OTP. But then after I added a one-off joke with “Good Morning Sex on TV” on the first verse fanfic (referencing both American dad and Family guy as a joke), Lovely said “what if we made it Brian+Roger the Alien” and that was so funny that we made that the only pairing, as a running joke. (and Andromeda got to draw them making out sloppy style and I got to make that into pixel art!)

Due to time constraints, I didn’t get to squeeze in as many cameos as in Ragebait. I was also kind of stuck on who to add in verse 2 as the spell checker troll/fan. I first wanted it to be Len or Rin, but drawing their hair was frustrating. I settled on Anri Arcade so I could turn her twin tails into devil horns, similar to Teto in Ragebait

The bridge section’s lyrics were originally part of a Confession of a Rotten Girl cover. I was working on a HXVOC version and I wanted to spice it up by adding my own original rap lyrics during the leadup to the breakdown. That cover was shelved due to other projects taking priority, but I was really proud of those lyrics, so I added it to this song instead

This is the first time I’m sharing my new Zynthesiren Sona design. Her design is very inspired by Solaria (Obviously) but I wanted her to be more Goth/Metal. You’ll get to see a more detailed design once the artist I hired starts working on the reference sheet
