JVM Roundabout #22 - JVM Garbage Collection

We will be kicking off the first JVM Roundabout of 2021 with "JVM Garbage Collection" in January and we really hope you can join us!

We will be hearing 2 talks...

First up, we'll be hearing from Chris Ryder, Senior Software Engineer and Team Lead at DiffBlue. Chris's talk is titled "Garbage collection genealogy (with added geeky bits)". During this talk, Chris will give an overview of a couple of the basic Garbage Collection algorithms - the building blocks used by real GCs. Garbage collection will be discussed in relation to JVMs, but GC techniques stem from programming languages of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. This talk will not focus on specific implementations of garbage collectors in real-world JVMs.
