Mild Steel is not a dirty phrase.
It's a question I see everywhere and get asked all the time. Well, that might be an exaggeration, I get asked it every now and then but it does appear a lot online.
What metal should I start with.
In my humble opinion, mild steel. If you have a choice and are working on your won use mild steel. It's cheap, forgiving, easy to move and still does the job, for the most part.
Making historic looking armour is something that takes time and a lot of practice, education, reference and more practice; mild steel is a great way to learn, get your eye in and develop tools with.
