Five criteria for judging a work of art.
This can be applied for many other field also but when it comes to creative work… I’m actually talking about this …

Inherent Message
First, is actually the message it is inherent in the work which actually revealed to the spectators… that is one

Expertise in Medium
Second is, actually expertise in handling the medium… if you are doing what colour how that expertise is actually revealed or, if it is oil colour or mixed media or if it is a metal or bronze would or plastic or technology involved whatever it is… even electronic medium… the expertise of handling the medium… Very easy…
You can make out whether inexperienced person has done something or experienced person has done something from the work which he has done.
In oil painting you can make out… In water colour you can make out and sculptures you can make out… so that is the second criteria.

Known Redundancy
Third criteria is known redundancy.
If I have two judge I have to see something absolutely new… nobody ever anywhere in the history has done it.
How far it is possible that is limited there.
In present day in Bangalore I know where we have two limit that but it is important.
Within your own ability and knowledge, experience you have to assess whether it is absolutely new.
And also if necessary, you have to ask the artist… you have anything in mind based on somebody else.
So, I will ask… but if it is absolutely new that I would say that has merit… this is three

Fantasy and Mystery
The fourth is I expect certain fantasy or mystery in the work.
This is the biggest and greatest and good contribution of the artist. There must be an element of mystery or, fantasy in the work which he has completed.

Resonance
The fifth category I would say that is the first but I'm saying it is last… that work should make some sort of resonance in the spectators mind.
If you see something that is… that kind of feeling and say forget the time factor… and say that that work has that kind of

If all these five categories if you can keep in mind while assessing a work of art you can make a comment.
