তাই কৃষি উন্নয়নের মাধ্যমেই এদেশের আর্থসামাজিক উন্নয়ন সম্ভব। আর কৃষি উন্নয়নের জন্য প্রয়ােজন কৃষিতে উচ্চতর
ও আধুনিক প্রযুক্তি জ্ঞানসম্পন্ন দক্ষ জনশক্তি । এ দক্ষ জনশক্তি তৈরির জন্য প্রয়ােজন কৃষিশিক্ষা। কৃষিনির্ভর বাংলাদেশের
উন্নতি কৃষিশিক্ষায় শিক্ষিত দক্ষ জনশক্তির ওপরই প্রধানত নির্ভরশীল।
অনেক ঘটনাই লক্ষ করি। বেশিরভাগ ঘটনায় হয় বন্ধু-বান্ধব বা সহপাঠী কিংবা পারিবারিক অশান্তিই মূল কারণ হিসেবে।
বাংলাদেশের কৃষির গুরুত্ব:বাংলাদেশের আর্থসামাজিক প্রেক্ষাপটে কৃষির গুরুত্ব অপরিসীম। বাংলাদেশ গ্রামপ্রধান দেশ। আর
গ্রামীণ অর্থনীতির উন্নয়ন কৃষিখাতের ওপরই নির্ভরশীল। তাছাড়া খাদ্য নিরাপত্তা তথা খাদ্যশস্যউৎপাদনে স্বনির্ভরতা অর্জন, শিল্পায়ন, দারিদ্র্য বিমােচন ইত্যাদির মাধ্যমে দেশজ অর্থনীতির ভিত্তিকে সুদৃঢ় করে কৃষি।
বাংলাদেশের কৃষি প্রত্যক্ষ বা পরােক্ষভাবে যেসব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে তার মধ্যে উল্লেখযােগ্য হলাে—

১. মৌলিক চাহিদা পূরণ:
খাদ্য, বস্ত্র, বাসস্থান, শিক্ষা, চিকিৎসা মানুষের এসব মৌলিক চাহিদা পূরণে কৃষির গুরুত্ব অপরিসীম। এর মধ্যে আমাদের খাদ্যচাহিদা সম্পূর্ণরূপে কৃষির ওপর নির্ভরশীল। বস্ত্র তৈরির প্রধান উপকরণও আসে কৃষি হতে।
যেমন— পাট, তুলা, রেশম ইত্যাদি। বাসস্থান তৈরির প্রধান উপকরণ বাঁশ, বেত, কাঠ, ছন, খড় ইত্যাদিও কৃষি হতেই আসে।শিক্ষার উপকরণ কাগজ, পেন্সিল ইত্যাদির জন্য ব্যবহৃত হয় কৃষি উৎপাদিত বাঁশ, আখের ছােবড়া ইত্যাদি।চিকিৎসার প্রয়ােজনীয় হােমিওপ্যাথিক, ইউনানি ও আয়ুর্বেদিক ওষুধ তৈরির কাঁচামালও প্রায় সবগুলােই কৃষিজাত ।

২. কর্মসংস্থান:
দেশের মােট জনসংখ্যার প্রায় ৭০% লােক প্রত্যক্ষ ও পরােক্ষভাবে কৃষির ওপর নির্ভরশীল।এদের কর্মসংস্থানের প্রধান উৎস কৃষি। কৃষি বাংলাদেশের জনগণের আত্ম-র্মসংস্থানের প্রধান খাত হিসেবে চিহ্নিত হয়েছে।
