Panamint Springs Resort Review!
We stayed at the Panamint Springs Resort in the summer of 2022 and wanted to share our review. To be fair, this was my second or third time here. We once stayed here, years ago, when we were travelling later in the evening, tired and needed a pit-stop, badly. Yet out in the middle of the desert, that easier said then done! We came across Panamint Springs Resorts, which is actually better described as a motel and were so thankful to God to drop us onto them. (That was before smartphones and all!) It’s located right off the route 190 or aka the Nadeau Trail Road near Darwin Canyon and Darwin Falls.
How did the cousin of Buffalo Bill Cody get away with calling it a resort when it is really a motel? Well, that is easy. Especially when you think you’re back in 1937 when Agnes Cody opened the establishment the first toll road was opened through Death Valley, but still it was a dangerous place where people died just because they ran out of gas or broke down without enough water! It is literally, when you include the Darwin Falls area just behind the resort, as the crow flies, an oasis in the desert! See our video on the Darwin Falls trail and waterfall here, it’s amazing:
Panamint Springs offers an affordable, clean and comfortable lodging, a restaurant with cook and great service, a gas station with a well-stocked general store and you can even camp with your tent or RV, or rent one of their ready to go tents with bedding and all! The look and feel of the Panamint Springs Resort has not changed much since the 1950’s which is part of the charm and allure to one of the few stop-offs with services in Death Valley.
“Panamint Springs Resort is a small rustic western-style resort located in beautiful Panamint Valley in Death Valley National Park that provides lodging camping and RV services a restaurant and bar and a gas station with a well stocked general store.” See: https://www.panamintsprings.com/
We booked a cabin for four people and two of the teenagers slept in a tent to get the full California desert experience!
I’d give them a 4 out of 5.
The bathroom and bedroom was clean and the shower worked well. The only issue was that you could only keep the ceiling fan on, if the lights were on! And quite frankly, a fan is pretty much necessary in a room in these temperatures in the summer. Although it does cool down quite a bit. In the winter you need the portable heaters each room has though, which was good to see in each room.
Even after the freak summer thunderstorm that rolled through Death Valley, • Freak summer Thunderstorm Death Valley 2022 it was quite hot at night and even a bit humid, which is also rare out in the California desert!
The experience alone is worth the stay at Panamint Springs Resort, if not for the hamburgers at their grill or restaurant!
