Vishnu Pallaki Seva Prabandham is a Geya Natakam written by Shahaji Maharaja II of Tanjavur (Tanjore) in the 17th Century. The Geya Natakam centres around the 'Viraham' expressed by Goddess Lakshmi. The process of conveying her 'Viraham' or the longing for her husband, Vishnu's love is depicted through this Geya Natakam. The Natakam concludes with the union of Vishnu and Lakshmi.
This Geya Natakam, presented in the form of an Opera, is composed with many varieties of Chandas such as Daruvu, Ragada, Padyam, Choornika, Dwipada, Dhawalam and Ashtakam.
This production has been conceptualized and composed by Smt. Padmavathi Thyagaraju and is presented in an Operatic format with Multi Instruments.
The production is based on Smt. Padmavathi Thaygaraju's research as a part of her Senior Research Fellowship under CCRT. Shahaji II composed 22 Yakshagaanas out of which only four were Prabandhas. While the Shankara Pallaki Seva Prabandha has already gained popularity, Vishnu Pallaki Seva Prabandha is still lesser explored.
The opera has been tuned by Smt. Padmavathi Thyagaraju using 35 Ragas including the Ragas mentioned by Shahaji II.
