We discuss the definition of monotonicity of a function.The monotonicity of a function gives an idea about the behaviour of the function. A function is said to be monotonically increasing if its graph is only increasing with increasing values of the equation. Similarly, a function is monotonically decreasing if its values are only decreasing.
To tell if a function is monotonically increasing, simply find its derivative and see if it is always positive on its domain. If the derivative of a function is always positive (or greater than or equal to zero), then the function is monotonically increasing.
