Your VetPro 1000 and accessories.
When you recieve your VetPro 1000, it will include an assortment of equipment and accessories.
It is essential to know the different components that come with your VetPro 1000. Each unit comes with an air/water syringe located in the manila envolope, a high-speed hanpiece, a burr starter kit, a low-speed handpiece, a 10-pack of disposable prophyankles and a boffle of hand piece conditioner.
If your VetPro 1000 unit is equipped with a scaler, you will also recieve a scaler handle, a type wrench, three different scaler tips, a tip wear guide and a metal case for sterilization and storage for the tips. Some VetPro1000 units are equipped with a fiber-optic light for the high-speed handpiece. If that is the case the bulb will already be installed on the hose in the first position on the left side of the unit.
Now, let's go through each. First, let's start with the high speed handpiece, located on the far left or first position. We install the handpiece by removing the highspeed handpiece head from the bottom box and lining it up with the hose and securing it to the coupler. Make sure the silver sleeve on the hose covers up the connection. Next, we put a burr in the highspeed head by taking the following steps:
With the smooth edge of the burr facing toward the highspeed handpiece and the rough edge facing out, push the burr into the head. Once the burr has gone as far in as it can go, push the button on the back of the handpiece firmly while holding the button in, push the burr in as far as you can. Release the button.
Midmark recommends using carbide burrs only once as they are never as sharp after the first use. Using a dull burr means that each addiitonal procedure will take longer and the operator may be tempted to apply too much pressure during use. This would reduce the life of the handpiece turbine. Regardless, burrs should always be removed after use to allow for proper cleaning of the handpiece.
Next is the lowspeed handpiece, typically used for polishing your patients teeth. Separate the swivel adapter from the rest of the handpiece by pulling back the quickconnect collar as shown. Install the swivel adaptor on the hose first. To do this, hold the black O-ring on one end of the piece and insert the other end onto the hose. Screw it on tightly using the silver sleeve on the hose. You will see a slight gap when you have it installed. Pull back the quickconnect collar, fit the rest of the handpiece onto the swivel adapter and release the collar to complete the connection.
On the low speed handpiece, there's a dial that's a different color metal from the rest of the handpiece. This is the directional dial. This dial allows you to select from the three positions of this handpiece: forward, neutral, and reverse. The notches towards the bottom of the dial indicate your position. Near the top of the handpiece there is also a locking dial. Turn it down to install the prophyangle. Turn it up to lock the prohpyangle onto the handpiece.
Finally, we have the scaler. Typically used for removing calculus from teeth. To properly install, match the dots located on the sides of the scaler and the hose. Attach the scaler to the hose as shown. Notice the color bands on the tops available for the scaler. These colors correspond to a range of possible frequencies available for specific tip on the scaler. Always match the color of the band on the tip with the frequency range band color on the front of the unit. Screw the scaler tip into the handle. Prior to use, tighten the tip using the key tool that's shaped like a stop sign. Turn the scaler needle valve off by turning the blue knob all the way to the right. Turn the scaler intensity knob all the way to the left. While fully depressing the foot control, turn the scaler needle valve knob to the left until droplets flow from the tip as shown.
Next, turn the intensity knob to the color range appropriate for the color of the tip. Your scaler is now ready for use.
