In July 2021, police in Baltimore stopped Nicole Johnson, 33, for speeding. When they asked for her papers, they discovered she didn't have a license. They decided to tow the car, but she confidently replied, "It doesn't matter. You'll see me on the news soon." Her strange words raised suspicions, and they asked her to open the bag. As soon as she opened it, a foul odor emanated, and they found a bag full of worms and a plastic box. When they opened the bag, they found the decomposing body of an 18-pound girl. Next to her in the plastic box was the body of a 20-pound boy. They were clearly severely malnourished. She tried to flee, but police caught her. Investigations revealed that the bodies were those of her nephews, Joshlyn (7) and Larry (5). Nicole admitted that she repeatedly beat Joshlyn until she fell, hit her head, and couldn't get up. She wrapped her in a suitcase and dragged her with her for months. As for Larry, she said he fell asleep and wouldn't get up after she saw a wound on his leg, and she didn't think to take him to the hospital. After a while, she wrapped him in a bag and placed him next to his sister. Their mother, Dashiell Johnson, moved from Ohio to Maryland in 2019 but couldn't care for them, so she left them with Nicole and tried to contact her, to no avail. In 2021, she arranged to pick them up, but Nicole disappeared and didn't respond. She didn't learn they were dead until she called the police. Nicole was sentenced to life in prison, reduced to 50 years, after spending months carrying the bodies of the children in her suitcase.
