Now that we've spent the past few video lectures learning about bifurcations, it's time to put our knowledge into practice! In this lecture we look at a model for insect outbreak and study the bifurcations in it. We begin by nondimensionalizing the model to reduce the number of parameters. With the two remaining parameters we demonstrate that a saddle-node bifurcation takes place in the model along a curve in parameter space. We interpret the different regions in parameter space in terms of outbreak prevent and conservation, giving an application of the theoretical techniques learned in lecture.
