Most stress doesn’t come from what happens—it comes from the inner argument that says “this shouldn’t be happening” and the exhausting attempt to control the uncontrollable. In this video, we use Stoicism’s most practical tool for anxiety and overthinking: the dichotomy of control. It’s the skill of separating life into what is up to you and what is not, then placing your time, attention, and energy only where they can actually change something.
Here’s what’s truly in your control: your judgments (the meaning you assign to events), your choices (what you say yes or no to), your effort (how consistently you show up), and your attitude (how you meet life in the present moment). These are the levers that shape your future regardless of circumstances. What’s not in your control: other people’s opinions, moods, and decisions; outcomes with certainty; timing; luck; and the past. A Stoic doesn’t deny these realities—he accepts them so he can stop bleeding energy into a fight he can’t win.
When anxiety spikes, your mind tries to solve the unsolvable by replaying scenarios, predicting reactions, and rehearsing worst-case outcomes. The Stoic reset is simple: ask, “What is the next controllable step?” Then take one small action you can finish in ten minutes—send the message, outline the plan, clean your workspace, write the first paragraph, schedule the appointment, or set a boundary. Ten minutes is small enough to start and long enough to build momentum.
This isn’t about being passive or pretending you don’t care. It’s about clarity, resilience, and emotional control—committing fully to the process while releasing the demand for a guaranteed result. If you want to train this daily, try a 2-minute routine: in the morning, choose one controllable action that makes today better; at night, notice where you chased what you can’t control and adjust tomorrow.
Calm isn’t luck—it’s practice. If you’re working on stress relief, mindfulness, discipline, and a stronger Stoic mindset, this will help you focus, act, and feel steadier under pressure.
