The origins
In Nice, the first mention found of Carnival dates back to 1294, when Charles of Anjou, Count of Provence, mentions his visit to the city for “the joyous days of Carnival”.
This opening “corso” (parade) offers an unprecedented dramatic experience! It’s made up of some Carnival actors: the king, the queen, some Carnival floats and flower floats, some giant heads, dancers and musicians…
Special guest for this extraordinary edition: the Rio Carnival will join the celebrations for this first weekend.
This unique ceremony marks the official start to the Nice Carnival.
