Day 21 brought a well-earned Zero Day as Manzo rested, resupplied, and waited out freezing temperatures. On Day 22, he set off on an 8-mile hike to Cable Gap, sharing his mix of nerves and excitement for the upcoming Smokies stretch, the frustration of replacing a frozen water filter, and his gratitude for the years 1967–1969.
