I recently came back from Japan… and I didn’t expect it to change how I think about reading.
On trains in Tokyo, almost everyone was reading. In bookstores, books felt current, alive, and fully integrated into daily life. And walking through Jimbocho — Tokyo’s famous book district — right after finishing Days at the Morisaki Bookshop felt surreal.
In this video, I talk about:
– What Japanese reading culture feels like
– Bookstores in Japan
– The beauty of Japanese paperbacks (bunkobon format)
– What I read in Japan
– Japanese literature on my TBR
– A small stationery & book haul
Books mentioned:
📖 Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa
📖 Mild Vertigo by Mieko Kanai
📖 Sweet Bean Paste by Durian Sukegawa
Japan reminded me that reading doesn’t need to be major. It can just exist — a paperback in your bag, a chapter between stations.
If you enjoy videos about reading culture, bookstores, Japanese literature, and slow bookish reflections — you’re in the right place.
