Описание: This sequence shows how Broadway shows and movies dominated Times Square in the 1920s, year by year, with giant electronic signs and billboards trumpeting new shows and movies, including Erich von Stroheim's THE MERRY WIDOW. This is from the opening for FOUR CLOWNS, a 1970 film by Robert Youngson about silent comedians. The narrator is Jay Jackson. The theaters pictured which survived into my moviegoing era include the Warner, the Rivoli, the Criterion and the Astor. I saw BLACULA and TERMINATOR 2 at the Criterion and the Clint Eastwood Italian western trilogy at the Astor. I saw BUTCH CASSIDY, THE TRIAL OF BILLY JACK, SHARKY'S MACHINE and CLASH OF THE TITANS at the Warner, which is seen here advertising NOAH'S ARK (1929). Check out my video, "Demolition of the Warner Theater," also on this YouTube channel, which includes other Times Square videos.
