Delhi's growing menace of reckless speeding vehicles claimed the life of yet another innocent citizen on Thursday morning. A tragic road accident on Kanjhawala Road near Signes Hospital, under the Aman Vihar police station area, left a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) school teacher dead. The woman had left her home with the simple purpose of reaching school to teach her students, but she never made it. A speeding truck loaded with gravel crushed the app-based bike taxi she was riding on, turning an ordinary school commute into a heartbreaking tragedy.
The deceased has been identified as 46-year-old Priyanka, a resident of Mahalaxmi Apartments in Rama Vihar. She was serving as a teacher at the MCD School in K Block, Mangolpuri. Like every other working day, Priyanka left home early in the morning to reach school on time. She booked an app-based bike taxi for a quicker commute, unaware that it would become the last journey of her life.
According to police, the accident occurred on Kanjhawala Road in front of Electronics Points, near Signes Hospital. Preliminary investigation suggests that the bike taxi was heading towards Mangolpuri when a speeding truck carrying gravel rammed into it from behind. The impact threw Priyanka onto the road, where she was run over by the heavy vehicle.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrifying. They said the collision was so severe that the victim was completely crushed under the truck. Blood was scattered across the road, leaving bystanders in shock. Several people rushed to help, but the injuries were fatal. Many witnesses were unable to bear the sight of the gruesome accident, calling it one of the most disturbing road crashes they had ever seen.
Immediately after the accident, the truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Police from Aman Vihar Police Station reached the spot after receiving information and found the truck along with the woman's body. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, while the truck was seized for investigation.
Police have identified the owner of the truck and registered a case against the absconding driver for causing death by negligent driving. Raids are being conducted at possible hideouts to arrest the accused.
