Alex Wong, who faced criticism last week for struggling during the oath-taking ceremony for assemblymen, received commendation today after debating in Bahasa Melayu.
The Karamunting assemblyman was praised by Sabah Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Kadzim Yahya during the sitting here.
After Wong concluded his speech, Kadzim asked whether he could speak in English, to which the Parti Warisan lawmaker replied in the negative.
Wong, 53, a former businessman, had come under scrutiny following his swearing-in last week, during which he appeared to struggle to complete several sentences in Bahasa Melayu.
However, Wong explained that the stuttering was due to nervousness during the ceremony.
