Hello my google plus friday peeps... I'm Ryan Hanley, the founder of Content Warfare and today we're going discuss two new Google Plus features that rolled out this week and why I believe one of them is going to drastically change a common blog traffic building strategy...
This week Google rolled out two new features to the Google Plus platform... Google Sign-In now automatically adds Google Authorship to Wordpress Blogs... Cool feature no doubt, but I still recommend adding Google Authorship through the traditional process which many people have created guides for...
....just Google... Adding Google Authorship Wordpress... and you'll find plenty of resources to help you do that.
But it's the second feature that Google added this week that caught my eye... We now have the ability to embed Google Plus posts into our own websites or blogs.
This is very easy to do just click the caret in the upper right hand corner of any Google Plus post and a drop down will emerge... a new option you will now see is Embed Post. Click the embed post option and a box will appear with simple HTML code you can use to embed the post wherever you like...
Pretty cool... no doubt... but cool does not always equate to useful in regards to achieving our content marketing goals.
However in this case I see Google Plus embedded posts as an extremely powerful tool for creating and capturing engagement around Posts, Events, Ideas or anything else you feel deserves attention and conversation.
For a long time bloggers have used commenting as a strategy for building new relationships inside of existing blog audiences and ultimately bringing those relationships back to their own site with the goal of increasing traffic.
I think Google Plus is replacing this strategy. Google Plus is a community built for comments and conversations... and the new embedded post feature is only going to drive more engagement through Google Plus instead of native comment systems...
...and personally I don't have a problem with this. Some may... some may feel comments in Google Plus are taking away from the content contained on their own site... and to a certain extent I think that's a very valid argument.
But to me... and this is 100% my personal opinion... the benefit of growing your audience and community on Google Plus is worth the trade off...
...so your Homework this week, start playing around with the new Google Plus embedded post feature... Then send me a message on Google Plus and let me know what you find. I'm very interested to see if there is significant increases in engagement.
