WOLED Has a Major Problem - And It’s Unfixable (Monitors & TVs)
In this video, I dive into one of the most frustrating and overlooked issues plaguing WOLED displays like the LG G5—chrominance overshoot and the dithering introduced to fix it, which ironically makes things worse for PC gamers. Thanks to LG’s white sub-pixel, WOLED panels struggle with near-black performance, causing over-brightening, diagonal dithering patterns, and visual artifacts on dark gray backgrounds—issues especially noticeable when gaming or using your display as a monitor. While I still believe the LG G5 is one of the best PC gaming monitors out there thanks to its high brightness, superior ambient light handling, and improved color over last year’s model, I now think it deserved a 9/10 instead of a perfect 10. Compared to QD-OLED, which suffers from magenta tinting and poor shadow detail under ambient light.

No OLED tech is perfect, but this WOLED flaw is real, persistent, and needs more attention from reviewers and LG themselves. Hopefully, LG will eventually drop the white sub-pixel altogether to fix these near-black performance issues once and for all.
