In addition to their great selection of small hot jazz combos, blues, and country artists, the General Phonograph Corporation’s Okeh Records had an incredible roster of hot studio dance bands, often led by or featuring the great bandleaders Harry Raderman and Harry Reser. These groups churned out snappy danceable renditions of the day’s hits with the goal of making listeners move their feet. This set of fifteen titles includes some of the hottest tunes by these bands, including an early version of Duke Ellington’s “Jig Walk, a great example of Reser on guitar on “Charley, My Boy,” and some lovely trumpet solos on “Everybody’s Doin’ the Charleston Now” and “What Did I Tell Ya?” Notice too the excellent bass response of Okeh’s True Tone and standard acoustic methods, particularly in the tuba playing.
