Steamrail's Steam Spectacular - Rare Triple Header Steam Train & Parallel Run

Описание: On the 24th June 2017, Steamrail held the tour of the year, the 'Steam Spectacular.' The tour ran from Melbourne to Ballarat and Geelong, and was hauled by a rare triple header steam train with locomotives D3 639, recently restored A2 986, and R761. At Geelong the train was split with R761 having a rare parallel run with D3 639 and A2 986 towards Melbourne.

In this video we see the rare train as it makes its way throughout western Victoria. We start in the Melbourne suburb of Tottenham before seeing the train at various rural locations on the way to Ballarat. We then see the trip from Ballarat to Geelong at a number of locations along the line. We then witness the rare parallel run at North Geelong before finishing at the modern Wyndham Vale station. In-between shots we also see a couple of V/Line Vlocities, some freight locomotives shunting at Moorabool, and a surprise guest appearance of Metro's IEV100 track inspection vehicle at Tottenham.

The tour was one of Steamrail's most ambitious to date, and not everything went to plan. The train left Melbourne's Southern Cross station around 35 minutes late after stalling on the North Melbourne flyover during the transfer move. After the D3 had issues at Bank Box Loop and missing a number of paths, the train arrived at Ballarat 2 hours late. Despite an altered departure time, the train left Ballarat to Geelong around 30 minutes late. Because the tour needed a specific path for the parallel run, the two trains left Geelong two hours late. The consist with the D3 & the A2 had further issues with one particular carriage striking the platform at North Shore, causing even further delays for the tour.

Despite these issues it was still an exciting day out. I drove myself around to chase the tour. A big thanks to Youtuber Comeng998 for accompanying me in the car and serving as my navigator. Your help and companionship is much appreciated.
