Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on June 5 stated that the upcoming caste census would mark a significant achievement for the Muslim community in the state, particularly those residing in the Brahmaputra and Barak Valley regions.
Addressing the press, the Chief Minister said that the Muslim community in Assam has long been demanding recognition of its diverse caste identities, and the census will help fulfill that aspiration. “This will greatly benefit the local Muslim community of Brahmaputra and Barak Valley,” Sarma noted.
He emphasised that the caste census would not only help bring clarity to the state’s social composition but also aid in better policy formulation and targeted development.
