The fifth track of the Venus Isle (1996) album, "Lonely In The Night" is one of Eric's lesser known epic pieces written by drummer Vince Mariani. It features two solos, and while many transcriptions exist of the first, not many exist of the second longer solo that closes out the song. From Sweetwater's interview with Eric: "I didn’t get the song finished until we were back in LA, mixing the record. So, I had to play the solo somewhat quickly."
The passage is full of EJ-isms, from odd-number note groupings, open-voiced arpeggios, and descending pentatonic patterns, culminating in three lightning-fast upward arpeggio sweeps to close out a nearly two and a half minute solo.
Many of the fast sections feature note groupings that don't fit clearly into EJ's two-note-per-string downward-pick-slanting technique. The tablature included is what's most comfortable for me to play (not that I can play it very well), so the accuracy of the actual EJ fingering may vary.
Sibelius is not friendly with guitar bends, hence the messy notation when multiple back-to-back bends are involved.
