CULLMAN HYDRAULIC CATCHES FIRE
Quickly Brought Under Control By Hanceville Fire & Rescue
Cullman e911 dispatched firefighters to the 8800 block of Highway 31 South in the Johnsons Crossing community this afternoon around 2:40 pm.
The 911 caller reported an interior structure fire and a simultaneous dumpster fire at Cullman Hydraulic.
This location is directing across the highway from Brannon Recycling & Salvage.
Upon arrival at the address, firefighters found the active fire inside the main garage area of the facility. Smoke was visibly pouring out of the structures ventilation system.
Simultaneously, in front of the building, a large commercial dumpster was on fire with flames visible and ample smoke.
The strong petroleum-based smell of this fire was noticeable all the way south into the City of Hanceville.
It appears that quick thinking employees of the firm discovered burning materials inside the garage, and attempted to drag them outside into the dumpster. Firefighters from Hanceville Fire & Rescue arrived at that point and proceeded to extinguish the blaze in both locations.
According to Hanceville Fire Chief Rodger Green:
"This structure is going to have some heat damage to the rook as well as some fire, smoke, and water damage. A fast response by everyone involved made sure this situation did not get out of control. It could have potentially been much worse.
Traffic was blocked in the northbound lanes of Highway 31 for a short time due to heavy smoke and fire apparatus.
Officers from the Hanceville Police Department and a medical team from Cullman EMS also participated in this incident.
No injuries to building occupants or emergency responders were reported.
