The effectiveness of herbicide spray in wheat largely depends on prevailing weather conditions. During the current season, many wheat growers are confused about whether the weather is suitable for spraying or not. Factors like temperature, fog, humidity, wind speed, and sunlight directly influence herbicide absorption and weed control results.
At present, cool temperatures and frequent fog in many wheat-growing areas are reducing herbicide performance. When temperature remains too low, weeds become inactive and do not absorb the herbicide properly. Foggy conditions also keep leaf surfaces wet, which can dilute spray solution and reduce contact with weeds.
Another important factor is wind speed. Calm weather is ideal for spraying, while windy conditions cause spray drift, leading to uneven coverage and possible crop damage. Farmers should avoid spraying during strong winds and choose early morning or late afternoon timings when wind is minimal and temperature is moderate.
Sunshine after spray is also very important. If cloudy or foggy weather continues for long hours after application, herbicides may not translocate effectively inside weeds. A clear window of at least 4–6 hours without fog, rain, or dew after spray helps achieve better weed control.
In conclusion, farmers should closely observe daily weather forecasts before spraying herbicides in wheat. Spraying during slightly warmer days with clear weather, low wind, and dry leaf surfaces will give better results and save both cost and effort. Proper timing based on weather can significantly improve herbicide efficiency and wheat crop health.
