I’d already banked two Top 3 finishes from the previous day, which meant I only needed two more to clear the challenge. Sounds easy on paper. In reality, that’s where the game likes to humble you.

I started the session feeling confident, jumping into Destroyer Jurua. Solid concealment, good utility, and enough flexibility to rack up XP through caps, spotting, and smart engagements. That match went exactly how you want a Top 3 game to go — calm, controlled, and efficient. One down, one to go.

Feeling good, I swapped into a cruiser for the next match… and promptly reminded myself why Top 3 challenges punish overconfidence. I played too aggressively, pushed when I shouldn’t have, and paid for it. Damage was decent, but XP efficiency wasn’t there. Lesson learned.

With one Top 3 still needed, it was time to stop experimenting and go with something reliable.

Enter Destroyer Västerås.

This ship doesn’t always get the spotlight, but for Top 3 challenges, it absolutely shines. Fast-reloading torpedoes with respectable range, quick-firing guns that punish mistakes, and the agility to stay alive long enough to matter. The key with Västerås is that it generates XP from every direction — caps, spotting, torps, gun damage, and late-game influence.

The next two matches were exactly what this challenge demands. Smart positioning, consistent pressure, and staying alive when it mattered most. Both games delivered clean Top 3 finishes, and the challenge was done — no drama, no last-second panic, just solid destroyer play doing what destroyers do best.
