A true standout among its peers, the Surface Laptop 7 is a breeze to get inside, service and clean.

You simply need to remove four quick-release rubber feet - these are clipped in - no glue here. This reveals four Torx screws that hold down the base. And once undone it’s easy to lift off the base – there’s no wrestling with pry tools or worrying about fragile plastic clips – the base is held in place with magnets, and just pops right off.

Once inside you’re met with the satisfying sight of neatly labelled internal components. The labels even inform you how many screws you need to remove for each component and which type of tool you’ll need.

Arguably our favourite part of this whole experience, however, is the inclusion of this QR code. Snap this with your phone’s camera and you’ll get easy access to Microsoft’s complete Surface Laptop 7 servicing and maintenance guide.

Alas, you’re fairly limited when it comes to upgrades. You can’t add RAM and there’s only one M.2 slot, so you’ll need to replace the existing 2230 SSD should you want to increase the local storage. However, should you need to replace the battery, fan, 3.5mm audio jack, Surface Connect port or the MicroSD card reader, these are child’s play to swap out compared with most modern ultraportables.
