King Leek was broadcast under the Comedy Premieres banner on 30 December 1997. The 'banner' broadcast Cold Feet, The Chest and The Grimleys throughout 1997. Cold Feet and The Grimleys were picked up as a series.
King Leek was a comedy-drama set in the North East. Tim Healy plays Malcolm Cromer who is extremely confident his home grown leeks will win a local competition by betting the family home on it. His wife Maureen, played by Su Elliot is dissatisfied with her life and her husband's neglect of her due to his obsession with growing leeks. She tries to sabotage the leeks by urinating on them. However, this has the reverse effect and makes them grow even bigger. Meanwhile, Malcolm and Maureen's son David (Christopher Connel) is growing marijuana on Malcolm's allotment...
It's a nice little drama. Tim Healy and Su Elliot are terrific. King Leek was written by William Ivory and was produced by Granada Television.
